'why are actors striking aren't they all millionaires' here's a paywall free link to an article that mentions how most of the cast of one of netflix's biggest shows had day jobs bc they couldn't afford rent

remember that actors are usually not well off at all. forget the big screen famous guys, they're the very few ones. this strike is for all the other ones, that deserve to have a livable paycheck for their job.
And a note to say that, had Orange is the New Black been on a not-streaming network which paid them residuals each time they screened the show the actors would have done fine or better than fine.
At the start of streaming rules were agreed to let these beginning ways of putting out stories over the web succeed and get established, and letting them not pay actors and writers traditional style residuals was part of what was agreed. They got established. They succeeded. The actors and the writers took the hit.
Streaming actors get screwed ten ways to Sunday. I'm still a part of the Union of BC Performers because I did work when I was young, and for a movie I was in when I was FIVE YEARS OLD, for around 30 SECONDS, in a movie that did poorly, I make more money in residuals than any of the leading actors in OITNB do for all of their hard work as adult professionals. It's sick, quite frankly, and I for one can't wait for the WGA and SAG to land lucrative contracts. There's no way in hell I should get more on my quarterly checks than the talent who worked on a show like that. By the way, once my movie hit Netflix in about 2012, my checks got slashed in half.
Zelda: Wand of Gamelon
Friendly reminder how this was when the Triforce of Wisdom promised everyone the King would come home safely,
But it fucking lied, so Zelda had to go save him AND Link.
it didn’t fucking lie, the king DID return safely BECAUSE zelda saved him IT WAS RIGHT THE WHOLE TIME media literacy is fucking dead
Canada and Australia remain as a monument to the fact the founding fathers were right
Shitting and pissing over fully voluntary mercy killings for the terminally ill...
It's an objective positive for both the people whose suffering can be alleviated and society at large.
Someone with a Xi Jinping profile picture finds the governmental killing for the harvest of organs of kids and the mentally ill a societal good?
Imagine my shock.
"harvesting organs" as in taking them from the terminally ill (again, willingly, after about a year of signing paperwork to the effect of "yes I will want to die") to give to people that live or die depending on how long they need to wait for an organ transplant.
Are you somehow morally opposed to organ donor cards, too?
Is someone intentionally sacrificing themselves for the good of others such a massive mental leap for you to grasp?
Nigga, the MAID program doesn't require terminal illness, you just need to ask the government to kill you, hell some have been pressured into using MAID by medical staff because they had a chronic illness, and now it's being opened to people who are depressed and 7-12 year olds.
A year? Paperwork? Nigga, it takes 3 months and one slip of paper.
Yes, I am opposed to organ donor cards, because many doctors have been found to not prioritize the saving of a life if they are an organ donor.
"Oh wont someone sacrifice themselves, please for the greater good!" God, you are a fucking Commie aren't you?
Retard, apply some tiny amount of effort into research before speaking.
"As of March 17, 2021, persons who wish to receive MAID must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:
- be 18 years of age or older and have decision-making capacity
- be eligible for publicly funded health care services
- make a voluntary request that is not the result of external pressure
- give informed consent to receive MAID, meaning that the person has consented to receiving MAID after they have received all information needed to make this decision
- have a serious and incurable illness, disease or disability (excluding a mental illness until March 17, 2024)
- be in an advanced state of irreversible decline in capability
- have enduring and intolerable physical or psychological suffering that cannot be alleviated under conditions the person considers"
Next time at least have some semblance of understanding before offering your useless opinions to me
Or, you can take your own advice.
A committee of Canada's parliament has called for the country's assisted suicide and euthanasia programme to be extended to "mature minors". Mature minors in Canada are those between the ages of 7-12.
Everyone who is a citizen is on publicly funded healthcare.
Wrong, there is no outside mechanism ensuring that they haven't been pressured into it, in fact as I said we have many such cases where medical staff pressured chronically ill patients into assisted suicide.
Informed consent doesn't mean much when the same government has prevented other medical professions from providing children and others with the necessary information prior to transitioning them, labeling it as conversion therapy.
Okay? So you admit they're expanding it to the mentally ill, don't know if that's a win for you.
This criteria means one must be in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed, that does not mean terminal, it means they experience physical or mental suffering from their illness, disease, disability or state of decline that cannot be relieved under conditions that the patient considers acceptable.
That's what the MAID program defines as being in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed, not that it can't be reversed, but the patient believes it can't be under conditions they consider acceptable.
Maybe next time you'll actually read into something rather than doing a 2 second Google search and copy pasting the first result?

A committee of nine (9) MPs out of 338 and they’re not even calling for MAID to be expanded to minors, they’re calling for a STUDY to see if MAID should be expanded to minors.
This is what you’re panicking over?
Damn, you slinked back after half a day to say only 9 MPs pushed the idea?
According to Global News, after hearing from nearly 150 witnesses and reviewing more than 350 briefs on Canada’s MAID program, the special joint committee of MPs and senators concluded that minors deemed to have the appropriate decision-making capacity should be eligible for assisted death.
Parliamentarians also recommend the federal government appoint an independent expert panel to evaluate Criminal Code provisions for assisted death for “mature minors.”
This isn't a study, this is them looking to see of the legal code needs to be changed so 7-12 year olds can be killed by the MAID program.
The only part that is a study, is separate from the decisions made by the government, the committee said funding should also be provided for researching the views and experiences of minors when it comes to assisted dying.
So even the study isn't to see if kids need to be killed, it's to see how they feel about the prospect of being killed by daddy government.
The conservatives rallied against this promotion of suicide by the liberal party, saying children should not be considered eligible for assisted suicide, even urging the Liberal government to improve access to palliative care and boost financial support for people with disabilities rather than killing them.
An urge that fell on deaf ears, as all other pushes by Conservatives have been ignored by the ruling government.
Oh yes, and the same Liberal party committee urged the Liberal government to expand MAID access to the tribes of Canada.
Honestly, for you to push the narrative that the government of Canada is doing this for the benefit of its citizens is laughable, when the same government pushed for an elderly woman to kill herself with MAID when they refused to install her stairlift.
I'm not panicking, I'm disgusted, especially by you, who would defend this heinous practice.
It wasn't an elderly lady, it was a veteran who got injured while she was in the service and was discharged due to disability. She went on to compete in the Paralympics. She asked the VA to help her install a stair lift and they said they could send MAiD equipment instead.
This makes it so much worse because she didn't even fit any of the criteria listed beyond being 18+ of sound mind and eligible for state funded healthcare. And the VA has no authority to be making that suggestion!

Okay, so I was right that it was an old lady.
